Northern Uganda and the story of Lamwo District

Tucked in this expansive region of Northern Uganda, is far flung Lamwo District bordering South Sudan that is part of a harrowing story of gruesome civil war which spanned for almost two decades (1987-2006) that claimed hundreds of innocent civilian lives, and at its peak, displaced more than 1.8 million people, in what has been described by commentators and historians as the “most neglected crisis in the world!”.

As a consequence of this long running crisis, life in this region is characterized by extreme poverty, poor healthcare and other social services, food insecurity, and an enduring psychological trauma arising from horrors of the civil war.

We at Pearl Rural Care (PRC) in Lamwo District, in collaboration with the government and other stakeholders, has been at the forefront in mobilizing resources, financial and in-kind, to address these challenges.

To ensure continuous provision of health services, in the year 2012, we have established a functional community based healthcare center in Lamwo District which is offering life-saving care to women, children, adolescents and the general population, including refugees from Southern Sudan today.

In addition, we conducts monthly outreach services to remote parts of the district, not only to provide services but also to provide health education, counseling and nutrition education for hard to reach populations.

We are on the ground and would wish to establish several other projects to improve the health and livelihoods desperately needed in Lamwo district. We therefore, welcome you to be part of this change story today.

The Importance of Office Work

Behind every successful healthcare activity, there is a dedicated team working in the office. Our administrative work ensures that resources are well managed, information is organized, and communication flows smoothly between staff, partners, and the community. Good office work helps us plan effectively, support medical teams, and reach more people with quality care.

Providing Essential Medical Care

In a region where access to healthcare is often limited, Pearl Rural Care offers essential medical services to the community. Our small clinic works with dedication to provide the best possible care with the resources available. Through compassion, commitment, and practical solutions, we help improve the health and well-being of people in this rural area.
